GENERAL FAQs
What is the purpose of this site? A place where Technology Professionals can come to rate, review, discuss and ask questions about the staffing or consulting firms that they have found a job through or worked for. The idea being that we can highlight the firms you will find a pleasure to work with and the firms to avoid and in the process perhaps help raise standards in the industry as a whole. Read more in the About Us section. This site is for IT/Technology professionals. Consultants or people looking for new jobs will find it especially useful. Who are we Rating, Reviewing and Discussing? Staffing Agencies, Temp Agencies, Search firms, Consulting firms, Recruitment Agencies - in the technology and telecommunications industry. Who are we NOT Rating, Reviewing or Discussing? Recruiting departments in the end user companies. Example, we don’t rate the Recruiting Departments at Google, Microsoft, eBay and so on. That’s a whole different game. Ok, good one. IT is sometimes used to describe the more networking side of technology, and other times used to describe the whole technology industry. Although it could be a big topic for debate, we use it in the broadest sense, Information Technology, to mean the whole Technology and Telecommunications Industry. This includes development, management, systems, networks, data storage and management, ERPs, CRMs and on ad infinitum. Sincerely hope we don’t offend anyone by this use of the term. I hire people from staffing firms and use consultants, is this site of use to me? Yes it is. The reviews are about the experiences of those people you’ve hired, how they found the staffing or consulting firm to be. As a manager you may wish to factor how these firms treat their people into your choice of who to work with. Typically firms who treat people the best, will attract the best people and thus represent the best to you. So although you can’t rate the firms (unless you got your job through them) you are welcome to use the site to review them and participate in the Discussion Board topics. What can I do without registering? You can do all the reading you like, including reading all the reviews, but to post on the discussion board or to rate a firm, you do need to register. Registration means you agree to the Terms of Use of the site. Registration takes absolute minimal details. What do you do with my details? No selling of emails. For a full explanation you can read the Privacy Policy. We are always concerned about giving our emails out, so we’ll be careful with yours. You do need a valid email as you have to validate you are a real person. Where do I manage my details / my account? Go to My Details, top right under the LOGOUT box. Here you can Edit your details, see or delete any saved Favorites or even edit your reviews. Why should I bother to Rate any firms? This site is wholly reliant on honest, helpful, balanced user generated content. Without it there is no point. We’ve made registration as quick and simple as possible, and it takes less than a minute to Rate a Firm (unless you unleash in the Comments section), so it shouldn’t be too much of a bother. Please contribute and help us make this site something useful.
RATE & REVIEW FAQs
How long does it take to Rate a firm? Some of the Rating Categories are not relevant for me Please rate the firm in the areas in which you have had experience. You can select N/A (Not Applicable) if you have not had experience of the firm in that particular category. Not applicable. Some of the rating questions are not applicable if you did not work through the staffing firm. You can select N/A. Your ratings are still valuable in the categories where you have had experience of the firm. Can I edit a review I have made? Yes, your reviews are listed in My Details (top right under the LOGOUT box). When you click on a firm that you have reviewed, it brings up your old review so you can see what you’ve done and change it or add to it. Can I review a firm more than once? Not at the moment, although this is something for a future release. The problem is how to stop someone making multiple reviews of the same firm and distorting the results. So for now we ask that you give your overall experience, even if you’ve had several experiences with one firm. I’ve worked with a national firm in different locations and have had different experiences This is where it could get complicated, lots of firms have lots of locations. For now we ask that you give your overall impression, then perhaps write something in the Comments box. A multi national firm strives to offer the same level of service at all locations, if it can’t achieve that this should be noted. Perhaps in due course we’ll incorporate a field so you can add the branch location. The Firm I worked through is not in your database. Please use Contact Us and email us the details (include company name and location) and we’ll add them then let you know you can now rate them. You have some incorrect information on my company If you are an authorized representative of a staffing firm on our database and would like to add some details or correct a mistake then please use the Contact US and send us an email with the correct information. We will not alter Reviews submitted by our users unless they breach our Terms of Use. Where did you get information on all these firms? It was a long process, using lots of resources, some paid, some free on the web. It is by no means exhaustive and we apologize for any inaccuracies. We will do what we can to correct errors or add missing companies. We do have day jobs though, so please bear with us!
DISCUSSION BOARD FAQs:
What is My Profile in the Discussion Board? This is where you can upload your own Avatar and some extra details that you may way people to see when you post on the Discussion Board. It is linked to your site login and uses the same username. You can also register on the site through the Discussion Board. You do not need to register twice. Will I get notified when someone replies to a Discussion Board post? You can subscribe or unsubscribe from Discussion Board topics when you post to a topic. When you make a new post the default option subscribes you to that post so you get an email when someone else posts a reply. You can switch that off by going back to that topic and selecting UNSUBSCRIBE at the top of the first post. You can add firms to a list of Favorites, stored under My Details, for easy reference. They could be firms you have worked with, ones you may consider working with in future or ones you just want to follow and see how they do in the reviews. There is also a MyFavourites on the Discussion Board (sorry about the European spelling, but ccBoard is a good off the shelf Discussion Board). Here you can store useful or interesting topics/discussions and access them through MyPosts on the Discussion Board. Just in case any sneaky staffing firm tries to manipulate the reviews by having their staff all review their firm positively. Now, no one would do that would they? How does Karma work on the Discussion Board? If you like what another user has to say, you can vote them some Karma. Conversely if you don’t like their posts you can vote them negatively. How do I get Stars under my Discussion Board avatar? The more comments you post on the Discussion Board, the higher your ranking. You get one star the first post you make, two once you’ve posted ten times, then it goes up from there.
MISC:
Why on earth is it called 5BowlsofSoup? Read the About Us section to find out. 6BowlsofSoup? Now that sounds ridiculous, no one would take it seriously! I don’t like soup, can I use this site? How can you not like soup? We shall shortly be starting a Soup Therapy And Rehabilitation group which you are welcome to join. In the meantime we suggest you only use the site for short periods at a time. Who is the SoupITGuy on twitter and doing the blog? He is someone in the staffing industry who wishes to remain anonymous as he doesn’t want to get fired, blacklisted or elevated to cult status. If you find something that doesn’t work as you think it should, could be better or is a plain old error, please Contact Us to let us know.
